Blundells Cottage

I love that we have been lucky enough to preserve reminders of Canberra’s pre federation past. Blundells cottage is especially great because it is right next to Canberra City.

You can walk along the lake foreshore and there it is. Today was a public Holiday in Canberra and the cottage was not open I will try to get some shots in side next time around.

I live in a beautiful diverse city which I love and am increasing noticing I have so much I could see if we get out more so, I plan to take you with me. Will you come along?

The Carillion and Aspen Island

I really like the Carillion because I think it is very Canberra perhaps more so than Parliament house and the other attractions. It stands alone at one end of the lake and rings out a melody that is distinctly its own.

Today we had the added bonus of there being a carillonist playing the whole time we spent by the lake. It somehow lends a new dimension to the experience.

I like this monument so much that I have photos from all over the Menzies walk pointing back to this one special place.

It just makes me want to scream…

IMG_0623This kid is called Lucas the reason I know this is because as we walked past I heard his father say “Make sure you hold on Lucas” what he should have said is get down from there it is a war memorial.

That is the HMAS Canberra Memorial today (and I assume every day) kids have been climbing all over it. When I asked a couple of kids to get off it, their father got a little narky about it. I explained they shouldn’t be on it all as it is a War Memorial which washed over him as if it were nothing.

I can’t believe we have such little respect for our past.

In schools the kids are taught about respect for the traditional owners of the land and it seems a given.

We have monuments to Australians who have given their lives in wars and we let the same kids use them as play grounds Grrrrrr is there a better way to sign post these as things of importance.

First ACS Event in almost 18 Months

Tonight I went to my first ACS event in a LONG time. For me it has been all about scheduling and distance the meeting time change a while back and I’d need to leave work at 16:00 to get there and this is a problem for me.

Tonight was Education Across the Nation - The impact of Social Media on Information Security Governance folk I spoke to afterward gave mixed ratings but I really wanted to explore briefly two things…

  1. In a room full of people averaging 2 Social Media Accounts it is really hard to target a presentation that will resonate with everybody and on that basis I think it was a good session and well worth my effort.
  2. We were asked how many “Social Media” accounts we have, far and away I seemed to have the most so here is my list of semi active accounts there may be more …

What can I do to reduce Service Desk Calls by …

I have been thinking about iDM tool deployment and have started to think about a benefit that could be unrealised while we think about synching connected systems.

Perhaps we could reduce Service Desk calls for Password Synch and Resets and maybe save the licencing costs of the iDM solution on the front end.

I want to talk about Password Self Service, Password Synchronisation and Enterprise Single Sign On.

I’ll tackle these topics before going on to more complicated iDM topics so over the next few weeks we will learn about Passwords yay!!
