When I first saw this image I smiled a little and thought wow they are trying to say complexity is BAD.
To many organisations complexity is bad mostly because they want to have a lower skilled workforce… Well it seems that way at least.

I want to spend some time talking about complex products that make the Business of IT and the Business of Business easier or Complexity can be your friend.
So I’m keen to relearn my FIM 2010 mojo by building a solution but also because I’m an Infrastructure guy not an application developer, I’m keen to build it code free except for some PowerShell.
Nice sentiment David ... I guess the problem is that there is a general perception that complexity is a smoke-screen to mask the ability of technology to ultimately deliver. In an ideal world complexity is justifiable when there is also supportability. Unfortunately in my experience a complex solution is rarely appreciated or understood by the decision makers that count - even if it works brilliantly it feels like it's always on borrowed time. You want FIM to do anything for you beyond out-of-the-box features, and a degree of complexity is unavoidable ... so what I aim for is consistency and reliability in complexity.

ReplyDeleteI love down the bottom of that picture, after all that work that some dude just drops the blue ball out of the bottom of the box. Just underscores the fallibility of humans in the whole complex process :)
